Copy, scan, print

Copy

Several multifunctional copiers by the company Green IT Solution are available at all ThULB locations. In addition, specially designed book scanners can be used to produce large scale copies (max. size DIN A2).

The location of all available machines / copiers are mapped on the website of the University Computer Centre.

Tips:

  • The website mentioned above can only be accessed from within the university network or via VPN.
  • The locations of machines and copiers are reflected in our 3D models.

For the non-commercial use regarding teaching, researching and studying, media from the library stock can be duplicated in accordance with copy right law and preservation guidelines.

ThULB does not take responsibility for the correctness of prices. Fees are determined by the company Green IT Solution.

Users can file a request for copies to be produced by the library. The inquiring party has to pay for all arising costs.

Please order your copy via the online request form. It contains all necessary details on processing and payment.

Tip: The form can only be accessed from within the university network or via VPN. Please consult the information desks for further advice.

Cashless payment via thoska card is possible. Moreover, coin operated copiers can be found on the ground floor in the Main Library Building and in the Branch Library for Law, Economics and Social Sciences.

Print

How to print ...

  1. Select a machine and send your file. It will be stored in the machine’s inbox.
  2. Select “print” from the menu.
  3. Insert your thoska into the card reader.
  4. Enter the print menu and select your file.
  5. Your print job carries your computer centre login name.
  6. Print your job.

  3. Connect your storage device with the machine.
  4. Choose “print” and select your storage device.
  5. Print your files. Data formats such as PDF, JPG and TIF can be printed.
  6. Remove your mobile storage device.

Tip: The machine can only detect storage devices that are formatted with FAT or FAT32.

To be able to access multifunctional copiers with your own device, please install proper device driver (detailed instruction*). The software is maintained by the University Computer Centre. If you have any technical questions, please contact the IT Service Centre at Ernst-Abbe-Platz.

  • Printable data formats are PDF, JPG and TIF
  • PDF files can only be printed in their entirety; pages cannot be selected directly at the copier machine
  • Colour printing is set up by default
  • To print black and white, please go to “settings” and adjust accordingly

Scan

Book scanners only accept USB flash drives for data saving. Regular copiers can be used with USB flash drives and SD cards. Saved files cannot be sent via e-mail.

  1. ​​​​​​To start the book scanner, please insert your thoska into the card reader and connect your USB flash drive with the machine.
  2. Place the media in the centre of the tray. Adjust the locking screws accordingly, so full pages can be scanned.
  3. Choose a data format (TIF, JPG, PDF) and colour mode.
  4. Start the scanning by either pressing the button or using the foot pedal.
  5. Remove the flash drive after you have finished the scan process.
  1. Choose “scan” from the menu
  2. Insert your card into the card reader (alternatively cash for coin operated machines)
  3. Connect your USB flash drive or your SD card with the machine.
  4. Choose “scanner” from the menu and set up the saving of data.
  5. Adjust advanced settings (data format, colour, etc.) if necessary.
  6. Press “start” to start scanning - repeat to add further pages to the same file.
  7. Remove storage device after you have finished the scan process.

Tip: After 60 seconds of inactivity the machine will save your file automatically. Press # to save manually.

Using scan tents, you can digitise various media yourself with your own smartphone. The object is optimally illuminated by LED strips inside the tent. We recommend installing a scan app for the scanning process, e.g. the free DocScan app (iOS | Android). The functions of the scan app vary depending on the offering company.

Digitisation service

Old materials and special stock items can be digitised if reproduction will not cause any damages and copyrights / personal rights will not be harmed. Please contact us for further information.
