ThULB offers registered users access to the internet free of charge.
Primarily, this access is provided for scientific research and the use of e-media and databases.
Use Wi-Fi “eduroam” with your mobile device
University of Jena takes part in the international internet acces roaming program called “eduroam”.
After having installed “eduroam” on your device you can use your computer centre login to access the university network for free at all of ThULB’s locations.
Requirement:
- Computer centre login (URZ-Login)

With your computer centre login the following way: login-name@uni-jena.de + password
Via eduroam, users have the chance to access all licensed electronic media of the library.
Internet access with LAN cable, mobile device and VPN
Our open access areas provide work stations that allow users to connect with a LAN cable. These work stations usually carry the label ‘Laptop’ - network sockets are tagged ‘VPN’.
Requirements:
- Computer centre login (URZ-Login)
- Installation of VPN client: manual & download
- LAN cable (bring your own)
Login:
- With your computer centre login the following way: login-name@uni-jena.de + password
While using the LAN connection, library visitors have access to all licensed e-media of ThULB.
Computer work stations
All branch libraries offer computer work stations for internet and database research.
At our computer work stations several programs can be accessed such as MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Citavi, EndNote or Zotero. Please note that some databases apply special requirements for their services, thus read their notices carefully.
Changes of settings and software as well as the installation of programs is strictly forbidden.
- Requirement: Computer centre login (URZ-Login)
- Login with computer centre data: fsujena\user name+password
Information terminals
Every branch library provides information terminals that grant our users access to central services. Usually, this equipment is located in the entry areas of our facilities. The following programs and services are accessible:
- ThULB website
- ThULB-Suche catalogue (media research)
All registered users have access to the following programs and services:
- Online user account (via ThULB-Suche catalogue)
- CARREL (work space reservation system)
- Interlibrary loan system (online account)
- Computer centre portal (self-registration, support, password reset)
The following options are unavailable:
- Licensed online materials
- Printing
- Saving data on external storage devices
To be able to access e-media please set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or use “Shibboleth” (single sign-on ID) on your device.
