Exhibition "UnboxingThULB"

21.05.2022

In its 470-year history, the Thuringian University and State Library has always been a place of lively change - driven by changes in the dissemination, use and organisation of knowledge. Looking back over the last 30 years, this change, which is currently culminating in the Projekt ThULB//2025, could not be more evident. Three anniversaries form the occasion for the exhibition UnboxingThULB, which aims to make these changes tangible: 30 years of the State Library, 20 years of the library's main building and 10 years of the new magazine building in Mälzerstrasse. In a special way, the exhibition focuses on the interaction between users and staff and their respective work in the library.

UnboxingThULB shows the development of the ThULB from the different perspectives of the people who come and go here every day. In this exhibition, we would like to "unbox" curiosities and forgotten things about the ThULB. How has working in and with the library changed through digitisation? What path does a book take from the order to the circulation desk? What traces do users leave behind in books and shelves? Go in search of traces and experience the ThULB and its now iconic blue boxes from inside and outside!

Become part of the exhibition and use #MeineThULB on Instagram and Twitter to share your view of the library on social media! Visit our social wall and see the ThULB through the eyes of other users.

You can also experience a first preview with our  3D tour of the exhibition.

Location: Exhibition room in the foyer of the main library building at Bibliotheksplatz 2.

Opening hours: The exhibition can be visited during the entire opening hours of the main library building.

Admission: free
